5 minutes with… Lianne Morrow

1. Who are you?
Lianne Morrow, 28, born and bred in Carlisle!

2. When did you start and what is your role?
I started on the 23 May this year and my role is Business Development Executive.  I believe the key to winning new business for the racecourse is to get potential wedding parties, business owners and party organisers to see the facilities for themselves.  When you get them to come on a site visit, they fall in love with the place.

3. Where did you work previously?
I previously worked in the customer services division at Stobart Biomass, an infrastructure and support services business that delivers critical support services to the energy, aviation and rail sectors.

4. What does a normal day consist of at Carlisle Racecourse?
A normal day at Carlisle Racecourse can vary from day to day, my role looks after conferences & meetings, weddings, parties and race days.   My mum and dad used to train horses – they had a couple of winners at Carlisle – and I’ve always loved horses, I still do and that was a big attraction to working here.  I always tell people this is more than just a racecourse.

5. What has been your highlight so far working at Carlisle Racecourse? Best event you’ve worked on so far?
#AmazingMonday was ‘Amazing’!  It had a great atmosphere, a great mix of clientele and Jo Whiley was absolutely fantastic – the crowd were literally bouncing!

6. Three words to describe yourself?
Enthusiastic, bubbly, trustworthy

7. What is the best event you’ve ever been to?
My wedding!

1. Who are you?
Helen Mackie, 48, born in Newcastle Upon Tyne.

2. When did you start and what is your role?
I started at The Jockey Club on 23 May 2017, the same day as Lianne! My role is Business Development Executive.  My plan is to expand the venue further into the conferencing market, make the venue a first choice for weddings and Christmas party nights and build on its unique hospitality offers.

3. Where did you work previously?
My previous position was event manager at the Marriott Hotel in Gosforth in Newcastle, overseeing all the conferences and events, including weddings and parties.

4. What does a normal day consist of at Carlisle Racecourse?
My role is a mixture of conferences & events, which covers anything from a wedding to a prom.  I also work very closely on the racing hospitality.  I come to work and on a daily basis it takes my breath away, the racecourse is immaculate and the staff take such pride in it.  If you don’t have a passion for what you do you won’t be able to sell it. I’m really proud to be a part of it and to work for a company that really cares about putting its money back into racing.

5. What has been your highlight so far working at Carlisle Racecourse? Best event you’ve worked on so far?
The first Jumps meeting; the crowd were great, great racing, everyone working as a team and all the guests in hospitality and the restaurant were full of praise about the racecourse. Great day!

6. Three words to describe yourself?
Loyal, sociable, hard working

7. What is the best event you’ve ever been to?
Ray Charles concert in an Amphi Theatre in Istanbul. It was amazing!!!
